If you'd said on Tuesday I could have got my bro to get his back from whoever he lent it to and borrowed it. I shall ask him but it might be a bit late now.

Fret not.

Frood wanted it to be his first century anyway, so we're getting the 06:36 ( ) from Cupar to Inverkeithing and riding from there to the city centre. We can leave the car at Cupar all day for a quid, and the train fare balances out with petrol and parking costs etc.

Many thanks for the offer, though.

Sam

I'm thinking of doing the run (have done the last few years) but will depend on:

1. Me getting up early enough to ride from NQ to Market Street

2. The weather - as I'm not riding with me mate this year I'll wimp out if it's dull and windy

3. If this pain to the inside of my right knee gets any worse.

If I do make it, as you overtake look out for a middle aged guy on a black Sandy Gilchrist frame with a cycling style uncannily like Stephen Roche :)

Sam, if you are planning on doing that fixed, there is a killer of a hill near Freuchie. Normally bottom gear on my double and honking out of the saddle.

If I get up plan to go NQ-Edinburgh -St Andrews and then head back maybe meet Mrs in mid Fife for a bit of afternoon tea - which will give me my first century this year.

I am planning on doing this ride on fixed ( #-o 8-[ ) and this afternoon I shall making a detour via that hill to take a look at it and scare myself silly.

At the end of the day I can always get off and walk if I have to. I've put a 17 tooth sprocket on the other side of my wheel. It's all down to how long it is.

We'll probably be leaving the car at Cupar to get the 06:36 and riding back there from St Andrews to pick it up if anyone wants company out of St Andrews.

Sam

We'll be riding back to Glenrothes from St Andrews, probably via Cupar.

Well, did everyone enjoy the ride? Particularly "cadgers brae"?

Superb weather. I left Edinburgh at about 8.35 - I think I saw you lot come in, if Sam was on a powder blue fixie, got to the top of the Cleish hills just as the ice cream van arrived, stopped at Freuchie for a bite and then on the way to ST Andrews got dropped like a used hankie by a very fit young lady on a black Principia!
I rode in with a young guy who had come from Balloch and we got in about 5 past 1.

How did you manage on Cadgers brae on the fixed Sam?

I tried to drop to my inner ring on the triple but it wouldn't shift down, but managed on the middle ring! I did sound like a steam train at the top though.

Now feeling very relaxed, if a bit sunburnt.

great day and weather

stopped at Kinross and Freuchie (just for that extra fuel for the nice wee hill  )

whizzed into St Andrews at about 1.30 and saw Sam Clare and better halves on my way home

will do again next time :D

That would have been me, Chewa. Only nutter there on fixed.

I confess that while I managed to muscle my 70" gear up Cleish hill, I only made it 3/4 of the way up Cadgers Brae (that's the one outside Freuchie, aye?) Horribly, horribly disappointed. More hill training for me!

I shall post a full report later.

However, chapeau to Frood, for whom that was the first ride he's done of more than 60 miles (we came out at 80 in the end).

No shame in that. The brae after Freuchie is a killer! I like the way it's sort of glossed over in the ride guide.

I would imagine coming down the other side of the Cleish hills was bit of a thigh burner on a fixed!

I always think the St Andrews run is a bit "technical" for a charity run, more like an Audax route.

Sorry we missed you Chewa :(

Mrs P & I cycled back to Glenrothes via the Albert Tavern in Freuchie :drinkers: Ended up doing 90 miles in total

We were really lucky with the weather - the suncream was much appreciated, Sam :) And well done to Frood, I didn't realise he was attempting a record.

I enjoyed the route through Fife, even the nasty hill after Freuchie  Must remember that for our next visit!
